#2 Album of the Year Radio National

Nominee, Soul Album of The Year Music Victoria

Feature Album PBS 106.7FM, ABC Radio National and Eastside FM

Independent vocalist, songwriter, broadcaster and DJ Chelsea Wilson releases

her self-produced debut soul album July 2014.

Over two years in the making, I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me contains ten new tracks inspired by seventies blacksploitation soundtracks, sixties Motown and soul jazz. The album features eight of Chelsea’s original compositions, plus her unique funk arrangement of Neyo’s pop hit ‘Closer’ and an Esther Phillips tribute, the title track of the album.

The album features an incredible list of musicians including Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos) on guitar, Jake Mason (Cookin’ on 3 Burners) on keys, Lucas Taranto (Gotye) on bass, Ivan ‘Choi’ Khatchoyan (True Live) on drums and Michelle Martinez (The Voice) on backing vocals.

The album artwork concept was directed by Chelsea, containing a series of images channelling the looks of three iconic rock-star divorcees; Cher, Priscilla Presley and Studio 54’s darling and ex Rolling Stone wife, Bianca Jagger, who inspired the cover shot.

In Chelsea’s words:“The album is a homage to strong women everywhere... finding your inner strength through surviving bad relationships. The themes are largely personal, inspired by my mum, my girlfriends and my own life experiences. The artwork depicts seventies it-girls who married rock stars, had their hearts broken publicly and moved forward with style and elegance. The album title track sums up the bitterness of breakups in the sweetest possible way whilst paying homage to the late great Esther Phillips. I absolutely adore Esther; she sang it all; disco, jazz, funk with class, wit and attitude. She was a queen and I am thrilled to name the album as a tribute to her. But it's not all about heartbreak...There is also a song I wrote about the Thriller in Manilla fight called Hit Em Like Ali plus an afrobeat inspired anthem called Don’t Stop For Nothing, co-written with MC/Vocalist Candice Monique.”

I HOPE YOU'LL BE VERY UNHAPPY WITHOUT ME

Seriously, why wouldn’t any broadcasting outlet in this city, not just public radio, commercial radio be playing that? they should be playing the sh*t out of this. New single from Chelsea Wilson – its just f**cking excellent” Tony Biggs, RRRFM

“From the opening drum break, this track from Melbourne Soul Sister Chelsea Wilson delivers baked goods, backed by the Cookin On Three Burners engine, girl has got the funk.
